Anaiah-Rae’s Newborn Photography Session

Anaiah-Rae’s newborn photography session took place at her home in Harrow when she was only nine days old. She did fantastically well and once she had hers lovely knitted hat on, she slept like the proverbial baby. If you would like to use designer knitted hats in your baby’s newborn photography, please let me know at the time of booking and I’ll send you three or four different hats for you to choose from an online shop. Whichever hat you choose will be yours to keep after the session, if you commit to a minimum order of ten, fully retouched images on a CD. This is a lovely memento from your baby’s first photography session and it’s nice to know that the hat has not been used on any other baby’s heads and is brand new. I am quite excited about this offer as I am the only photographer in this country who is offering such a simple yet sweet keepsake from your little ones first photo shoot!

What are the advantages of having a newborn photography session at your home?  Needless to say some deliveries are difficult and many mums have c-sections or complicated deliveries which require a lot of stitches. Some would like to have a newborn photography session but find the thought of travelling in a car just too daunting. Add to that trying to pack all the necessary clothing, nappies, soother, make-up and you find that after many sleepless nights, things do get left behind. I had one lovely couple arrive and as they settled down to feed the baby, mum suddenly says to the dad ‘You did take the baby’s bag into which I packed all the clothes for the shoot?’. He replied – ‘But I thought that you took it?’.  As they traveled for over an hour to get to my studio, going back home was not an option. Luckily newborns look great in their birthday suit and with a help of sweet blankets and my props we still got a fabulous selection of photographs from their session.

Another bonus is having some natural light photographs taken at the same time. These feel a lot different to the studio lighting and tend to look superb in black and white.

If you have a reasonable space in your living room for me to set up a couple of lights, a portable backdrop and the all important beanbag on which your baby lies then we are ready to shoot your newborn’s first professional photography session in the comfort of your own home! And yes, furniture does often gets moved around to create a bit more space however, I do promise to put it back to the way I found it.

For those who feel they don’t have enough space in their home or just prefer to have the full studio photography experience, I recommend coming over to my comfortable studio in Ealing. It overlooks a park and offers a truly relaxed atmosphere with a comfortable sofa and a large armchair to sink into, a plate of  biscuits on offer and a selection of organic teas, a Nespresso coffee or bottled water to be enjoyed while I photograph your baby. Did I forgot to mention that there is a baby changing mat, a feeding pillow, a dressing gown too and a good selection of magazines to browse through too?!

Whether you choose Nemi to photograph your baby at home or at her studio, you’ll be able to view your images from an online gallery and share with your family and friends within few days of your session.

A Fun Baby Photography Session with Eliot!

Baby photography – time it moved on a bit from the knitted hats and feathered headbands!  I have been trying to come up with an idea which would make baby photography sessions a bit more unique and sometimes the simplest props are the best.  At just over five months old, I decided that Eliot was going to be a perfect model to try out to a fabulous paper boat hat  I made for him –  he loved wearing it which is a result, as babies are never that keen on hats and do try to take them off within seconds of them being placed on their heads.  What made this lovely paper boat hat so nice was the paper it was made from – soft and it didn’t irritate Eliot at all. I have in the past tried a few knitted hats for little ones and while sometimes they don’t mind them, at other times, they do find them too hot and some babies do come up in a red rash and get grumpy when you try to put the woolen hat on their head. Good thing about the paper hat I made, is that it’s very much breathable and light, certainly not itchy or scratchy and to top it all – it made the baby photography session so much fun!  I have come up with an idea that perhaps parents can bring their favourite newspapers or maybe even bring ones from their own country (lots of my clients are from abroad). As a trial, I have made lots of paper boat hats – some with nursery rhyme poems on them, some with the titles of British newspapers (I did think The Independent was quite a cool one), I guess the possibilities are endless which is what makes this idea for baby photography shoots so much fun and a lot more personal than a baby hat which has done the rounds on other babies heads!  I am thinking of learning some origami (off to the library right away) and maybe I can make animal hats too? How does  a paper duck or maybe a bonnet for a little baby girl sound. I’ll post the results as I make more hats.  Fabulous news is that each hat will be unique and made just for your little one and you’ll be able to take the hat with you as a memento of your shoot.  I cannot wait to use it in baby photography shoots and I think it will look great in newborn photography sessions too!

Three Week Old Baby Reeve

It never ceases to surprise me how all babies are so different – Some six day old babies loose their newborn curl yet, you can have a three week old old or even a four week baby sometimes behaving like  a newborn one. Reeve was one of those relaxed and chilled out little munchkins – newborn curl intact, quite sleepy and not too demanding. Here he is with his lovely mum.

Beautiful twin Sisters

I don’t see many twins coming in for newborn photography sessions however, I imagine that it must be incredibly hard to even contemplate packing all the necessary clothing, and getting the little ones in a car after probably not getting much sleep at night. Baby Isabella and Guinevere were exactly two weeks old when they came to my studio with their parents and a fabulous nurse who was a true baby whisperer. In saying that both the parents were amazing too and if I had a winners cup for the ‘The Best Dad’, Nick would have won it hands down as, he was a natural at handling, changing and calming his tiny 2kg baby girls. It must be such great help for new mums when their husbands/partners just roll their sleeves up and get on with helping out after the birth. Here they are…

Baby Olivia’s Newborn Photography Session

Olivia’s mum found some wonderful props and brought them with her to Olivia’s newborn photography session at my studio in Ealing. The theme was very girly with lots of pinks and headbands – very suiting for a little princess! If you would like to use similar props for your baby photography session, please contact me beforehand and I’ll scour the internet  to see if I can get hold of something similar. Here’s lovely Olivia and here are images from her parents pregnancy photography session.
